Who knew communications in the ‘Red Centre’ would hold such history…
Central Communications started from humble beginnings in the Northern Territory in 1973. Jeff Farmer, a radio communications technician and all-round technology wizard opened a business, classically named Farmer Electronics. Jeff, a long time Alice Springs resident serviced all communications and technology based appliances throughout the Central Australian region including the new radio station, and even the television broadcasting equipment, which of the day was a big deal! Jeff was instrumental in bringing live radio and black & white TV to the red centre and later, colour TV to Central Australians, causing one hell of an argument with the providers who seemed to be amazed that a man in the middle of nowhere figured out how to make colour TV from black and white on his own!
The company was renamed in 2001 to Central Communications and was already renowned for reliable affordable remote communications, and continues with that trend to this day. For over 45 years Central Communications has been providing Central Australia with the service, sales and support that residents have come to know and respect, and we will continue to do this for many years to come!

Director / Operations manager
Sandra Hill
Sandra is a co-owner and director of Central Communications in Alice Springs. She has been involved in the company for nearly 20 years. She has been instrumental in growing the business, and ensuring that our reputation for quality affordable workmanship continues. Also known as ‘mother duck’, she’s a second mum to many of the staff and is the go-to person if you need something organised or completed.
Radio technician
Karl Briscoe
Karl started with the company in 2006 and since has become a qualified Radio Technician. He is our resident expert on all things communications related and prides himself on quality neat workmanship, taking pride in all tasks he undertakes. Karl has extensive experience in building equipment for the Central Australian environment. Karl is a great character to work with, and is the maker of smiles amongst the troops.

Suman Tilmilsina
Suman is the newest addition to the Central Comm’s family. Suman’s background is in Telecommunications but is also fluent with radio communications, and learning more every day!
